CFES - Pathways to College & Career
Nothing makes the college experience more real for the CFES Scholars than the campus tours! They get so excited about seeing a dorm room, and checking out about all the food in the various cafeterias and restaurant venues.
Every year CFES tries to visit the University of South Florida Engineering Expo, Florida Polytechnic, and the University of Florida.
Along with the opportunities outlined below with photos, to further expose students to various college and career options:
Every year CFES tries to visit the University of South Florida Engineering Expo, Florida Polytechnic, and the University of Florida.
Along with the opportunities outlined below with photos, to further expose students to various college and career options:
- our Science for Every Student event included hands-on activities led by college professors and students from Florida Southern College, USF, and Florida Polytechnic.
- College & Career Week included college knowledge facts that were announced (by a CFES scholar) over the intercom each morning, teachers shared their life journey and college experiences, and many electives allowed students to complete interest inventories and research the careers that were shown as the student’s best fit.
- 8th grade students also hear about college and career paths, and the necessary academic, behavioral, and attendance requirements, from high school faculty and students. This year we had visits from Harrison High School, CFAA, Summerlin High, and the 8th graders toured Mulberry High School.
- Students involved in the Why Try elective and the About Face after school program are coached and given various strategies to help them improve academically so they can be successful and achieve their goals for the future.
