what certain grades mean...
Wondering why you lost points on an assignment? Check the "comments" or ask me! Here are a few other things to consider when checking your grades:
A “Z” in the grade book is calculated as a 0 but means that you can turn in that assignment and still receive full credit.
An “X” in the grade book means that you do not need to do that assignment. This grade does not help or hurt your grade in the class.
A “0” (the digit zero) means that you did not attempt to answer any of the questions, or you were caught cheating. If you decide to re-do an assignment that was turned in blank, you can improve your grade.

Stadards-Based Grading
All grades directly reflect your understanding of a particular concept. When averaged together for your overall grade in the class, your guardians can see that (on average) you understand all the content for the grading period at that level. (Confused? You can totally email me and I'll break it down for you! :) [email protected])
Grade forgiveness - Did you do terrific on a quiz, but not so hot on the work leading up to the quiz... or you still need to makeup some work that was due before the quiz? Talk with Mrs. L and she'll excuse the earlier assignments if you earned an A or B! Woo-hoo!
(But if you didn't do so great on the quiz, I need you to finish the work as a way for you to learn all that terrific, wonderful info a little better. When you submit the late work it will go in the gradebook to show you understand things a little better now - assuming you get all the questions right, of course!)

How to access your student's grades online...
Polk County Public Schools transitioned to a new student information system a few years ago called FOCUS. We've been told that when parents and students log in, they will see their student's schedule, grades, as well as information pertaining to school nutrition, transportation and media services. This is also where contact information can be found to verify school staff have correct data for contacting parents.
